Atheism Is Irrational

http://hauns.com/~DCQu4E5g/Atheism.htm

For my inaugural entry in my Cool Site category, I had to include this "logical" explanation of why atheism is the most irrational belief system. I'm not endorsing or condemning any religion or creed here. I'm just bringing this to everyone's attention.

The writer's argument is that atheism is illogical because it is impossible to prove that God does not exist. He dismisses atheists' argument that it is equally impossible to prove that God does exist, calling it a "lie." How is it a lie? Well, the author provides some false analogies comparing God to pencils and people driving cars to the zoo. His entire argument is begging the question: he assumes that God exists (which is the original point of contention), and then makes his arguments flow from that as if it were undisputed.

The atheists I know don't give a hoot about "proving" that God does not exist. I certainly don't, because it would be impossible. I heartily endorse believing what works for you, and staying out of people's faces about their beliefs.

I've known three "in-your-face" atheists in my time. They would pick arguments with religious people just to make themselves look smart, though they had nothing to offer but circular arguments. Never have I wanted more to kick someone in the head. Basically, they were bullies.

That said, I absolutely cannot stand crazy Christians who cannot make a logical argument, but feel the need to argue anyway. Christians, in general, are stereotyped to be finger-pointing, right-wing, fundamentalist zealots. The majority of them are not. Unfortunately, it seems the idiots in the world always scream the loudest and get enough attention to make the rest of "us" look bad, regardless of what group you belong to.

The three "in-your-face" atheists I've known were not any worse than these kind of people. Maybe I need to expand my list of people whose heads I need to kick. : -P

I was checking out this "logic" guy's website, and he actually offers to lecture for people, expenses in advance. I must be in the wrong business. If he speaks as well as he writes, there is no doubt a lecture from him would not be worth a penny in the bottom of the sewer. I could provide a better, more practical lecture on religious beliefs than this guy. I wonder how much that pays? : -P

You want to have a good debate about Xianity, talk to a Jesuit that has some time on his hands. They are by far the best trained apologetics.

Well, Shane, you now know an athiest who is not "in your face." Your welcome. Now, let me explain to you why the only real God is Brett Favre. You see, on the first day Brett beat the Bears. On the Second day he beat the Vikings. On the third day he beat the Lions. On the fourth day he beat the Cowboys. On the fifth day he did some drugs. On the sixth day he simultaneously kicked the habit while beating the Vikings. Again. With one arm. On the seventh day he won the Super Bowl, which I, as an atheist, have chosen as my own personal holy holiday. You see? Life really is all about football. I think God would agree. Therefore I am right.

Actually, I know a lot of non-in-your-face atheists. I know some smart atheists. I know some dumb atheists. I know some tall ones. Some short ones. Some logical ones. Some illogical ones. A couple of dirty ones. Etc. I've only known three in-your-face atheists. But for the longest time they had a big impact on my opinion of atheists. Over the years with more exposure to atheism, I have found more atheists are not assholes. I think a lot of people's opinion of a lot of stuff, including atheists and Christians, is shaped by the ones that are assholes. What a shame.

I have known a lot more asshole Christians than asshole atheists, but then again, the atheists weren't trying to convert me because I was already converted. That being said, I am one of the tall atheists that Shane knows.

Currently there are significantly more Christians in the USA than Atheists, which runs the odds up of running into one that is an asshole. Knowing me increases your odds even more. : -P

Ouch. My mouth got cut off by this thing.

Posted by: shane at January 6, 2004 10:59 AM

Can I be a tall atheist, too? Can I? Huh? Huh?

Posted by: Shawn at January 6, 2004 10:03 PM

You're not tall enough to be one of Shane's tall atheists, so you'll have to be a dumb, short, illogical one. ( Y )

I can upgrade you to "tall" for a small fee. All Atheists can be tall and smart and logical by sending away for my pamphlet, only $6.95 a copy. I can also get you saved, just in case, but that costs a LOT more. ; -)

"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a tall, smart atheist to enter the kingdom of God." Or something like that.

"...but with God, all things are possible."

Or something like that.
