Recent Books

Trouble Is My Business by Raymond Chandler. Four Philip Marlowe stories, sort of like espresso to Chandler's usual rich coffee. Although I don't like coffee, so never mind the analogy.

A Negro Explorer at the North Pole by Matthew Henson. He might have been the first non-Inuit to the north pole, depending on who you listen to.

Movies on Trial: The Legal System on the Silver Screen by Anthony Chase. A really well-crafted film history that necessarily delves into the history of the legal system. Pretty enlightening stuff.

I Am Part of Your Education

This is odd. I was googling myself, and I noticed that my reviews have turned up on at least two course syllabi. The first was for a German cinema class at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; the professor quoted my review of Stroszek. The second was my review of The Crowd, which was suggested as an online resource in a film history class at Centenary College of Louisiana. I've always wanted to influence young minds; who knew that my movie reviews would be my way in.

That is VERY cool. Makes me want to start up a website just so I can go back and review a bunch of classic and arty films. ;-)

This also helps justify that I have your website in my "Arts and Culture" folder.
