I learned how to make animated gifs today.

That animated gif is great!

I read an article about the Thailand coup and I thought of a man pointing a gun at me and yelling, "You are free to vote!"

Man, I wish you were here to watch The Departed with me. Hope all is well.

How come when I read Shawn's post I started singing Cinderella's "Don't Know What You Got Till It's Gone?" :-P

Is making an animated gif something that an idiot like myself can do? Might be something fun to put on my website!

It's pretty easy, although time-consuming. Basically, you make the frames of the animation with whatever art program you have handy (Photoshop, maybe Paint--you have to be able to save things as GIFs), and then you use another program to combine the frames into an animation. I'm using something called Gif Movie Gear, which is free for a month. I don't know if I'll buy it at the end of that month--it depends on whether I actually keep doing this. I think it costs $30. There are probably other programs out there that do it, but this was the one that seemed to get the most recommendations.

When I finished these two, I thought of the Beavis and Butt-Head episode where they learn to do animation.

if you have Photoshop, you also have Image Ready which has animated gif creation built in.

Also, Fireworks has animated gif creation built in.

There are a few free animated gif programs out there, but I'm not sure what the best ones are these days.

:( I uninstalled Imageready, thinking I wouldn't need it, and now I can't find the disc.

I like the dancing guy. Is that anyone in particular?

He's from a 1920s car magazine. He was a stunt driver who broke his neck in a crash but recovered and kept being a stunt driver.
