Supreme Court Gets One Right

The Supreme Court ruled today that captives of the Bush administration's war on terror can have their day in court. Guantanamo detainees can sue to challenge their detention, and Yaser Hamdi, a US citizens held as an enemy combatant, has the right to rebut the government's case against him. They've also agreed to hear a medical marijuana case, and they upheld arrestees' Miranda rights. It's about time there was some good news on this blog.

Whereas I disagree with it, I am not too surprised about them holding alien detainees hostage without a lawyer or anything. But it blew my mind to find out they were going to hold U.S. citizens, too. Good for the Surpreme Court!

I was also happy to see that our government actually managed to "hand over" control of Iraq to their new government. I doubt they will REALLY have any real control of their situation until we get our butts out of there, but it is a step in the right direction... provided they ever get free elections to work. That will be an interesting situation.
