The Movies About Movies Blog-a-Thon

Welcome to the Movies About Movies Blog-a-Thon HQ. Entries are already pouring in, and I'm looking forward to a torrent of great posts on movies about the movie industry's favorite subject—itself.

It's not quite the end yet, but I wanted to thank you all for helping make this THE GREATEST AND MOST SUCCESSFUL BLOG-A-THON EVER held here at goatdogblog. I'm really shocked (happily so) at how many of you participated, and I can't wait until the dust clears and I get a chance to read all of your entries.

I thought "The Death Kiss" (1932) as maybe being
the first murder mystery set on a Hollywood movie
set. It had David Manners, the lovely Adrienne
Ames. Bela Lugosi was marvellous in a "red
herring" role. Mona Maris was strangely uncredited
in her role as Mrs. Agnes Avery. It was her last
role before going back to Argentina.
The "Tonart" studios were actually Tiffany and it
was very interesting to see behind the scenes.
Also interesting was seeing the early cameras and
sound equipment the studio used. The story was
very good as well.

Damnit, you stole my idea! Actually, I've been planning to do several blog entries on early 50s Hollywood-on-Hollywood films (Barefoot Contessa, In a Lonely Place, of course Sunset Boulevard & Singin' in the Rain). Does this blog-a-thon only last for another couple days?

Posted by: MovieMan0283 at August 23, 2008 5:41 PM

It will last until Sunday the 24th, but I'm guessing there will be some stragglers, so I'd be happy to link to your entry/entries as long as they come in during the next three or four days.

Mike, Could you possibly add my first name to your listing? I kind of feel like a thing the way it's listed now. Thanks!

Posted by: Marilyn at August 24, 2008 8:05 AM

Done. You're not a thing!

No problem, Mike - I will do Singin' in the Rain later today (since it's the one early 50s Hollywood-on-Hollywood film I own & don't have to wait for Netflix) and thus launch my Hooray for (Hating) Hollywood series and submit my entry to the Movies About Movies Blog-a-Thon simultaneously, killing two birds with one stone. A blessing in disguise!

That sounds wonderful, and I'll be looking forward to the rest of your Hooray for (Hating) Hollywood series.

I'm writing on "The Player" right now, Sunday night... http://worldsbestfilms.blogspot.com

Posted by: Jose Sinclair at August 24, 2008 8:34 PM

I hope I'm not too late! It turns out that I was going to post today about this film anyway, so this was perfect synergy. And, it's in two places: my personal blog, deepinyoureyes, and on the new blog for my class, shortfilmsblog.

Thanks for doing this -- it's such a great idea.

I made it - it's still Sunday for 3 more hours!

Thanks, this was my first blogathon and it was a lot of fun. I cannot wait to read the other entries, some of my favorite films are there.

Just under the wire:

Singin' in the Rain as one of the last Movies About Movies Blog-a-Thon entries, and the first of my Hooray for (Hating) Hollywood:

http://thedancingimage.blogspot.com/2008/08/hooray-for-hating-hollywood-singin-in.html

Thanks for the encouragement!

This was a fun blogathon, my first. Some of those I've read are very good. I didn't go into as much plot detail on "The Player" since it's a mystery and half the fun is figuring it out along with Robbins' character.
Movie Man: you didn't mention that "Singin' in the Rain" was Cyd (short for "Sister") Charisse's first major part, and WHAT an entrance she made, in the lengthy Broadway Melody fantasy! I thought of the eye-popping, tongue-rolling scene from "The Mask".
Kudos to the group...

I enjoyed this blogathon. I hadn't realized how many movies about movies there were until I saw that list you linked to.

I found some of those films viewable online and linked to them here.

Thanks!
