The Real Joan of Arc

Over the next few months, I'm going to be watching and reviewing films about Joan of Arc. The first is a Franco-German TV documentary that attempts to poke holes in one of the most famous, and perhaps most misunderstood, legends of Western civilization. It's a TV documentary, so it's not great cinema, but fans of the topic should definitely give it a look. Read about it.

I've been meaning to do this sort of screening series for ages so I'm looking forward to read your reviews and seeing how its done, Mike. Why do you think Joan has been interpreted and re-interpreted on the screen so many times?

I think Joan has been re-interpreted on screen for several reasons, myself:

1. For religious folks, especially Catholics, she is an inspirational character.

2. If presented correctly, she is a strong female character who is inspirational to women.

3. Sword fights. YES!!
