Updates

For all of you who have been hiding from me for fear that I'd ask you to help me move, you can come out now. I hired some movers, two college kids who will have the privilege of carrying my stuff down the precipitous back stairs of my building.

I still haven't heard anything definite on the proofreading job. Hopefully, I will be able to start going in on a regular basis next week. I have to call and find out what's going on.

I have written 17 pages of my paper. I'm having a really hard time working in the secondary research, basically because I haven't done very much of it. I have until next Friday to get it done.

I'm now the main projectionist at the LaSalle Bank Cinema, which shows old movies on Saturday nights. There was someone with whom I was supposed to share the duties, but the departing projectionist doesn't have faith that this other guy can do it.

Rebecca and I are shooting our short film on Sunday, August 1. If you haven't been approached about a starring role (none of which are speaking parts anyway, since it will be silent) but are interested in a cameo, please contact the producers (me or Rebecca).

I guess that's about all. Have a nice weekend!

You can have me in the film for the modest fee of $280, plus room and board, which is approximately how much it would cost for me to fly up there. :-P

Hee hee. Anyway, sounds like you're having fun. Good for you! Good luck with the proofreading job. Hope it works out. :-)

I'll have my agent contact you.

Heh. Too late. I have documentary evidence that you've agreed to work for free, Mr. Boyle. Never leave a paper or electronic trail, my friend. Especially not when you're dealing with desperate characters like me and Rebecca.

Damn, this is a rough business.

Hey! Good to hear from you. Glad you were able to procure some strapping young college boys to help in the move. And keep it up with the paper!

are you done yet?

I shall kill you, Travis.

No, I'm not done. I'm done with the meat of the paper, but I need to write an introduction and a conclusion. It sounds easy: say what I'm going to say, and then say what I said. But it's the hardest part of the paper for me.

I had the opposite problem when I wrote, fiction and non-fiction. I could start and end a paper, but filling up the middle was difficult. Mostly because I'd lose concentration. My mind would wander, and I'd think about things I wanted to do, and what I was going to eat that night, and stuff like that. I think I might have some tuna noodle casserole tonight, actually, and watch a movie. We rented "Gangs of New York," which I missed the first time around. So it should be a pretty good night. I just don't know what I am going to do when we are moving and all my electronics get connected for a day or so. We are having movers come in to take the big stuff, but they don't come until Sunday, and we'll be moving other stuff starting Thursday. That is not going to be any fun. What were we talking about? Oh, yeah. In conclusion, I am better at writing the beginning and ending, as my mind wanders in the middle. The end.

I write in blocks. I know what I want to say about Joe Schmoe, so I write everything about him. Then I know what I want to say about the third law of robotics, so I write it. I do this dozens of times, then I cut and paste the parts in the proper order, then I write transition sentences if I feel like it, then I fret over the introduction and conclusion. I can't start with the introduction because most of the time I'm not positive what I'm going to be saying. I figure out a lot of the connections as I'm writing.
